ABOUT FUNDS 4 RORY

We are holding a fund raiser for Rory Dunbar to be able to take a unique sailing trip for disabled in 2018 on a tall sailing ship converted for disabled, with The Jubilee Sailing Trust (www. http://jst.org.uk or www.facebook.com/JubileeSailingTrust).

We are trying to raise enough money to send Rory Dunbar and hopefully sponsor other disabled person(s) to be able to do one of The Jubilee Sailing Trust sailing trips in the future. These trips are not cheap as they need to be paid in pounds and are not affordable for the average person.

ABOUT RORY

Rory Dunbar was born in Kuruman, South Africa in 1974 to parents Rina and Barry Dunbar. At the age of 13 his family moved to George where Rory started high school at PW Botha High School. Rory was very active in rugby (represented Griqua’s at Craven Week in junior school) and lifesaving at local beaches.

On 02 March 1991 Rory life, as he knew it, changed forever when he had a motor bike accident in George leaving him a C5-C6 Quadriplegic and wheelchair bound.

After his accident Rory finished his high school at Elizabeth Conradie School in Kimberly and matriculated in 1994.

After school Rory studies Data Metric’s but his studies did not end there. He went on to complete his Honours & Masters in Epidemiology through Stellenbosch University, Honours in Health Informatics from Edinburgh University and is currently doing his PhD in Operational Modelling for TB Diagnostics through Stellenbosch University.

In 2002 Rory married Kim Dunbar that he met while in school in Kimberly.

Rory also has a service dog Vaughn that goes with him everywhere and assists him in basic functions. Rory got Vaughn from the South African Guide Dog Association.

Rory has never let his disability stand in his way and has always taken on all challenges head on.
